For instance, science has on multiple occasions dispossessed indigenous community of some of their rights (intentionally or not does not matter here), as it can happen when say a substance is discovered that has a health/medical benefit of some sort and that gets patented (restricting access to that substance) by whichever organization, while this substance was already known and used traditionally by an indigenous community. It also happens that scientists and prospectors ‘use’ communities to gain knowledge (and later profits) without compensating the ones who shared that knowledge in the first place.

Note that my comment is not meant to be against science (I am a scientist myself), it just raises the attention to the fact that there is a need for better regulations or ethics in general, for protecting (and respecting) indigenous communities.
